Driving home from our Easter visit to New Orleans I could not help but notice that Springtime is really here! I love this time of year. Beautiful, white cloud sunshine days tempered by long lingering cool breezes and nature in full bloom!

I know for those plagued with allergies, which of course is most of my family, it is time for swollen, itchy eyes and constant sneezing, but this time we observed nature out the windows of our van on the ride home. Breathtaking!

I just love seeing the wild flowers covering the sides of the highway and the median on the interstate. Your eyes can’t help but focus on the beautiful, vivid range of colors accenting the lush green landscape.  Colors ranging from pretty pinks, deep purples and canary yellows to crimson reds and burnt oranges. Each batch of flowers more full of color than the one before it.

As for the animals, seeing the new-born calves and folds running or nursing from their mothers as we pass one grazing field to the next is heartwarming.  What a wonderful sight to behold and a good time for a life lesson with the kids as well.

I remember asking my mom the same questions that Josh and Cate did on our ride home as we enjoyed the free nature show along the way. Who planted the flowers? Why are some of the baby cows and horses brown and others black? Do brown cows really make chocolate milk?

No matter what the questions are, in the end everything comes back to being God’s creation. Even the invention of chocolate milk!

Springtime is the essence of what it means to be refreshed and made new again in the blood of the Lamb. The “Lamb” of course being Jesus Christ. With His suffering and dying on the cross our sins are washed cleaned and we are born anew.

Just like the earth awakens during Spring, we as Christians are awakened to a new and refreshed life within Jesus Christ and the church after our time of Lent.

All hope is renewed within us and we are bright again as the colors of the springtime flowers. Our souls also are infused with life just as the newborn, baby animals.

Springtime is definitely here! Open up your windows and let the cool breeze air out your musty house. Get rid of the stale air and welcome in the new and refreshing air.

Now is the time to open your heart to Jesus in the same way. Let Him refresh your soul with His spirit and renew in you the promise of everlasting life. Happy Spring!
