Feeling connected means so much to the human psyche and soul. Don’t know about how you feel, but I  just love when I feel connected to my loved ones around me, friends and to my maker – God. Since our lives were rearranged 6 years ago I have been trying to find that connectedness again.

It took me awhile to fully awake from an emotional slumber from the whole ordeal and I find myself wanting to find inner harmony and find balance.

I know that no one else can create that inner harmony for me. I just have to find that tranquility myself and the way I am going to go about accomplishing this task is by taking one day at a time and enjoying the “little things” in life.

To help me on this “reconnect journey” I’ve found inspiration in the words of St. Therese of Lisieux:

“May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing that you are a child of God.

Let this presence settle into your bones and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.”

These passionate words invoke in me the yearning to relish every moment I share with my children daily. From helping them with homework, to spending quality time together talking, singing, laughing and playing.  I am going to take the time to just be a Mom and not a working, cleaning machine.

It makes me realize that spending time by myself to relax and regroup is a good thing to do. As a Mom I need to rejuvenate and get some reflective time to myself. If I am at a good place mentally, physically, and spiritually, then that permeates to those around me.

Remembering that I am a “child of God” is a great perspective to be reminded about as well. I know that when times are really tough and I hand my problems over to Him I can begin to see my way through the situation. Prayer is my favorite way of connecting with God, but I love when I can connect with Him through nature.

Through nature I mean taking a walk at lunch time just to enjoy the beautiful blue sky and cool breeze. Enjoying the sound of the birds in the morning when I awake to begin my day. I also love when I go outside and water my garden. I know it sounds funny, but years ago I used to go outside and water my garden the same time my sister watered her garden.

We use to live next door to each other. I really enjoyed the time spent talking to her and taking care of the flowers and trees. Now that we are separated I enjoy watering the garden with Cate my 5 year-old.

Last week she and I planted a small flower garden in the large planter by the door. Now we water it almost every day. It’s growing, blooming and the ladybug pinwheel we put in there is an added bonus when the wind blows!

For me this is a calming time that helps me feel reconnected with my child, life and my God. So for now it is a day by day journey towards achieving my goal.

Although my life has taken many twists and turns these past years, the foundation upon which my life has been built is strong. I know that God has carried me this far and now is the time for me to walk beside Him for the rest of my journey. I am ready.

God loves us where we are and we are always connected to Him. Although we may not feel His presence, He is there waiting for us to find our way back home.

For me, today, I am trusting that at this precise moment I am exactly where God wants me to be, and that I am using the gifts He gave me to spread His love to others I meet on this journey of faith when we “connect.”
